Nightmare Alley star Ron Perlman reflects on the third Hellboy movie he never got to make with Guillermo Del Toro.
“‘We met over some Indian food. We started with dessert, which is how I like to start, and we both realized we were bros.’ But Del Toro had an agenda. He was putting together his first feature film (Cronos, a vampire-inspired Mexican independent drama). After coming across Perlman’s work while researching prosthetic makeup artists, he sought out the actor for a starring role based on ‘a bunch of work that I actually thought nobody had seen,’ Perlman humbly recalls over the phone.”
Unlike Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: No Way Home handles multiple villains effortlessly.
“The concern that many Spider-Man fans had heading into No Way Home was that there were too many villains for Peter to take on and that it was going to result in a movie that was lacking in one way or another. Luckily for us all, we were gifted a beautiful movie that balances Peter Parker’s desire to save everyone he comes in contact with and fantastic moments from some of our favorite villains.”
Did you miss seeing Ghostbusters: Afterlife in theaters? Don’t worry; it’s headed to home video sooner than you might think.
“For most of 2021, if you wanted to see a major blockbuster that was coming to theaters, there was some kind of at-home option. However, as the year went on, some options began to go away and one of the biggest movies you simply could not have seen if you didn’t go to a theater was Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”
The fashion in Emily in Paris? Phenomenal! The character writing? Not so much.
“In season one of Emily In Paris, Chicago native-turned-Parisian Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) is dubbed ‘ringarde’ or ‘basic’ by a famous French designer. He means it as an insult, from which she passionately defends herself later, but the comment rings true in terms of Emily’s broader characterization. The Netflix series from Darren Star is marred by a nondescript protagonist, who doesn’t evolve or gain any kind of dimension in the second season, which premieres December 22. Emily—and, by extension, the show—both feel stuck in time.”
Halo Infinite has a pretty exciting winter event lined up, but it might consume a lot of your time this holiday season.
“Halo Infinite has a seasonal event starting today. Like Infinite’s prior event, a ton of cosmetic options are up for grabs, some of which are cool, all of which are free. This event, however, is more of a time commitment than anything else from the popular multiplayer shooter thus far, requiring you to play at least one match per day for 10 out of the next 14 days.”
